NORDIC DESIGN IN FOCUS

NORDIC SELECTED is an exhibition which presents the best within Nordic design over the past decade in connection with CODE09 - Scandinavia's first design fair and meeting place for the ultimate trends within design, furniture, interiors, lighting, textiles and technology in Bella Center from 27-30 August 2009.

At the moment, the general view is that international interest in Nordic design rests on the great classics from the 1950s. NORDIC SELECTED is therefore organised on the basis of more international focus on the best design from the past decade:

- NORDIC SELECTED is, in particular, an opportunity to demonstrate that the Nordic region is coming together by focusing on our creative and meaningful design, which clearly represents the design for which we in Denmark are known internationally. Our common past and a uniform social development are expressed in Nordic design with a single common denominator - each country's own cultural inheritance. Initiating a Nordic exhibition like this promotes cultural collaboration, as such a project has never previously existed, says Lone Ann Disch, Exhibition Manager at Bella Center.

Prize-giving - NORDIC SELECTED AWARD

The NORDIC SELECTED AWARD will be presented at CODE09.

The different product designs at NORDIC SELECTED will be selected by two curators in each of the Nordic countries within the following categories: graphic, interactive, architectural and product design.

The participating countries are Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

The two curators are selecting 25-30 product designs from each of the individual countries. The selected product designs are connected to the Nordic image, and have had considerable influence within the design world. The exhibition thus shows a qualitative variation, and thereby gives the viewer an enrichment of the senses.

The selected product designs cannot be made public at the present time, but the following firms are among those which have been nominated:

Normann Copenhagen (DK), SUP Design (DK), B&O (DK), Royal Copenhagen (DK), Fritz Hansen (DK), Blå Station (SE), Brio (SE), Kosta Boda (SE), Dahlström Design (SE), Norway Says (NO), Marimekko (FIN)

The entire exhibition is being judged by Professor Dr Florian Hufnagl, General Director of Die Neue Sammlung - The International Design Museum Munich. The chief curator is choosing a winner from among the different categories, and the winner will receive the NORDIC SELECTED AWARD - a sum of DKK 50,000.

CODE09 HOSTS PRIZE-GIVING DURING CPH DESIGN WEEK

During Copenhagen Design Week, Scandinavia's first design fair, CODE09, is hosting the prize-giving ceremony at which the winner will be announced of the INDEX:AIGA Aspen Design College Challenge, "Designing Water's Future" - a competition among students worldwide to develop designs, which meet the growing global water challenges.

The competition has been running since May last year, and more than 700 students from 28 countries have participated. From the 700 participants, an international jury has selected seven finalists, of which the winner will be revealed for the first time at CODE09. The prize is DKK 50,000. The seven different finalists' projects will also be on display at CODE07, and the seven finalists will be present, when the prize-winner is announced.

The prize-giving is a joint project between INDEX:, THE CONFEDERATION OF DANISH INDUSTRY and CODE09.

SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE

For Copenhagen's first design week in Copenhagen, CODE09 in Bella Center has decided to organise shuttle buses for visitors. The buses will drive past a large number of showrooms in Copenhagen's city centre as well as numerous sights. CODE Selected Shuttle will be a delightful mix of business and pleasure.

- We must ensure that our visitors have the best possible time in Copenhagen. It is now we need to join forces and present the best we have learned. Consequently, it is obvious for us that the buses are running while there is focus on the B2B market - the event is only officially open to the public on the Sunday. If we want to make our mark with this first international design week, then together we need to prepare the ground for innovative business initiatives, says Lone Ann Disch, Exhibition Manager at CODE09.

EXHIBITION OPENING: SKUD PÅ STAMMEN 2009

Competence Center of the Wood and Furniture Industry is inviting visitors to the opening of its exhibition 'Skud på Stammen 2009' on Thursday 27 August at 13.00 in Hall H, stand 060.

The exhibition is the result of a workshop at Copenhagen Technical Academy where 28 cabinet-makers collaborated with the designers Rud Thygesen, Rasmus Fenhann, Lars Lundquist, Antonio Scaffidi, Sebastian Jørgensen, Jacob Jørgensen, Søren Nissen, Ebbe Gehl, Erik Marquardsen, Claus Bjerre, Jacob Olesen, Tom Stepp, Peter Petersen and Jesper Holm.

Apprentice cabinet-makers from Roskilde Technical School, SDE College, Uddannelsescenter Herning, EUC Nord, Svendborg Business School and Copenhagen Technical Academy participated in the workshop. Journeyman joiners from all over Denmark also participated.

The idea behind the workshop is to support cabinet-making as an innovative craft where innovation in thoughts and action can be seen in new designs. The exhibition will continue as a visiting exhibition throughout Denmark.

Several of the exhibited designs will be auctioned at www.lauritz.com. Bids can be placed for the pieces from the opening at CODE09 and up until the end of the final exhibition. It will be possible to place bids online at the various exhibition venues. Profits from the sales will go to the Skud på Stammen Fonden, which has been established to create a sound basis for the Branching Out project continuing in future.

A LUXURY DREAM HOUSE - FROM PATIO TO BEDROOM

A dream house focusing on sustainable living and luxury will be one of the more exciting exhibits for visitors at CODE09.

Eight different companies, which are partners in the concept House of Dreams in Vallensbæk on Funen, are using a 90 sq m stand to display everything from furniture, soft furnishings and lighting to art, hi-fi, beds and outdoor kitchens for the patio.

- House of Dreams is participating in CODE09 to fly the flag as Denmark's first integrated concept house. On our stand, everyone will feel they want a home which looks like this, says Henrik Reenmers, who is Managing Director of Dunlopillo A/S, and who took the initiative a couple of years ago to create the framework for House of Dreams in Vallensbæk. In addition to being a headquarters for Dunlopillo, House of Dreams is also hosting 30 different partners within luxury and lifestyle.
